Luck in Life

There are many so called self help gurus and experts who claim that everything is achievable in life as long as you do not give up and follow a certain method which is preferably the methods that they teach. Many of them especially teach that financial and societal success can be had no matter what your status is in life. But how reliable are these people who promise that nothing is impossible in life?

Who Is The Best?

When I was young I love to read the biographies of successful people both in history as well as in the modern world particularly in business. These stories are replete with great people many from humble origins who overcame extreme obstacles to create remarkable achievements on a historic scale that they are recorded in the annals of history.

At first it was the kings and queens as well as the generals that society looked up to in terms of success. There were the great philosophers, geniuses, inventors and the likes that also came into prominence. However in the later part of history money seem to become the great measure for success and the people wielding it are considered the most successful and powerful.

In our current lifetime we now see celebrities such as actors and actresses as well as sports stars becoming prominent not only because they are famous but also because they earn a lot of money as well. But the greatest one of all are the wealthy business people who stand above the rest in terms of wealth.

YouTuber or Astronaut?

Our media always has news of the personal and business activities of the millionaires and most especially the billionaires of today. Many people of today even the young people of today are motivated to do activities that would primarily make them rich and famous. This is especially true when many of the people of today consider social media influencers as their aspiration.

In a study conducted in UK, China and America it was found that many young people preferred becoming a YouTuber rather than being an astronaut. This is very evident in our media of today where YouTubers are more prominent than astronauts. YouTubers are also perceived to be more “Cooler” and many think that they earn more money.

Being an astronaut is also more difficult than becoming a YouTuber. You have to excel physically, educationally, and must have a successful career related to being an astronaut before you can qualify. Being a YouTuber in the meantime requires as little as owning a mobile phone with a decent camera and the ability to capture an audience with some form of entertainment.

If you are interested in this study all you need to do is Google the keyword “astronaut or YouTuber” and you would see a lot of articles discussing the study. This is a worrying trend especially if you consider that being a musician and a professional sports star is also high in the list. Money and Fame seems to be a strong motivator.

I also know of an actor who was interviewed and asked some personal questions. In one question he was given a choice of which he would rather be known for. He would either be a Nobel Laureate Winner or a successful NBA player. He chose to be a successful NBA player because he liked the fame it brings.

Can We Blame People?

As can be seen many people today especially the young want fame and fortune and the faster they can achieve it the better. While most people of yesteryears usually think that becoming financially secure meant having a successful career in a big well established company there are a growing number of people who are not content with climbing the corporate ladder and want to be their own bosses in their own businesses.

We cannot really blame many people for thinking so. Since the dawn of sophisticated industrial machines, computerisation and now Artificial Intelligence (AI) many employees are looking at an uncertain future where machines and computers would take their jobs. In fact most manufacturing jobs that were lost in America is largely due to companies automating their factories and offices.

We could also add the end result of globalisation which made companies more efficient to the detriment of workers. This means that companies became more efficient and empowered to assign jobs to the cheapest but most hardworking workers even if they are from overseas. As a result many workers now cannot depend on their loyalty to the company as an asset.

While normal workers have obscure, unrewarding, uncertain and stagnant careers they see celebrities who have it all: money, fame, fortune and so on. This is further worsened when normal people see very young people succeeding with no formal education or skill in such areas as media and entrepreneurship.

How many people want to be Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook fame? The answer is almost all of us who know him. We see many young people establishing digital businesses even if they are still in college. We see millions of common people all creating YouTube channels and blogs creating all sorts of entertainment products they can think of.

Many Try But Only a Few Succeed or Even Survive

Many start businesses even as simple as blogs and YouTube channels in the hopes of making money and even hope of becoming rich and famous. However just like many good things in life they are hard to achieve. Statistically nine (9) out of ten (10) businesses created usually fail within a year. Of the ones that survive only about one (1) percent will survive.

If this business survives long enough then it succeeds. However even longevity in business is not a guarantee of long lasting success as a single business decision mistake or factors that are beyond a company’s control could result in the failure and closing of a business. This applies to careers as well.

The Success Coach

I am a very heavy user of YouTube and many of the videos I watch are self help, investment and entrepreneurship videos. As a result I get a lot of ads from people and companies who advertise their products and services that will supposedly improve my life, earn me a lot of money and even make me famous.

YouTube also recommends similar channels about people who can supposedly give me the same things. There are especially a high number of self help and financial experts gurus that populate my recommendations list. Lately the numbers have died down and have been replaced by some videos which shows how these same self help and finance gurus are now landing in trouble and even going to jail.

Still I found some of these self help and finance gurus helpful. Almost all of them of course are also marketing their courses or books but are more on the practical side. They do not teach that nothing is impossible but rather tackle real world problems and how to solve them. But to repeat again: most of these self help and finance gurus have courses or books to sell.

Is Success Really Possible No Matter The Condition?

I have a good example that success is not impossible even if let us say you are in your most lowest point in your life. You may or may not know the story of Colonel Sanders the man who started the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) company. He was already a pensioner and broke when he decided to do something about his bad state in life.

You could read his story in the Inspirations section of this website. He had a very hard life when he was young and throughout his life he has to contend with one hardship after another with very small successes only inbetween. You can also find much lesser stories of failure to success stories all over media.

Did These Successful People Need a Coach?

Colonel Sanders did not need a self help or a finance coach nor did my other example who is Ray Kroc the man who made the McDonalds Restaurants a household name. These two (2) businesspeople gambled on their businesses and with luck won. I do not mean that these men do not have the talent to create and run a successful business but luck plays an extremely big part in success.

No matter how much success coaching you have if you are unlucky then you will not succeed. This does not mean that self help courses and books are not important. My point is that success coaching is no guarantee of success. Many people even get addicted to self help information that all they do is learning how to be a success rather than acting on becoming a success.

After reading and watching a lot of self help and finance information I concluded that most of the things I learned can be learned for free without me having to pay for them and that what these people teach are different from real world practical conditions. This is not to say that paid books and courses are just a waste.

I would rather suggest that you seriously consider what you are getting when you pay for these books and courses. Maybe the information you are getting are just common knowledge and can be had freely somewhere else. Be picky in what you pay for and pay only for the courses and books whose information you cannot find elsewhere.

Luck or Talent in Business

If you Google the keyword ”luck or talent in business” you will see a list of articles that would tell you that luck plays an important part in the success of a business and in fact all endeavours in life. In short life is unpredictable and could even reward people with no talent at all. This truth hurts especially to talented people who despite their best efforts are beaten by lucky people.

Though luck plays an important part in life it is not everything and one can improve their chances of being lucky by improving themselves. For example although anyone can learn the skills of a job companies tend to hire those who are already skilled and educated. A person therefore can improve their luck by learning skills and educating themselves.

Try Your Luck

If you are a previously mentioned worker who is stuck in an unsatisfying and a dead end job with an uncertain future there is nothing more important that you can do but to try your luck at something that may improve your life. You can try this on a partial basis while you are still doing your main job which you may not be happy with anymore.

For example there is a YouTuber by the name of Adam J. Bell who has a video titled HOW Much MONEY Does 7,000 Subscribers Make You On YouTube? | YouTube Money. According to his video he started to make $1,000 per month after 8 months of producing videos.

He states that making enough money which is about $4,000 per month is achievable but could take awhile. If he earned this amount could do YouTube full-time. To a person living in a developing country even $1,000 a month is almost double the minimum wage that with it they can leave their job but also live a relatively rich and easy life.

As can be seen it would only take months for a person living in a developing country to live a relatively rich life if they are lucky enough just by starting a YouTube channel. Though as previously stated that many people are competing to become rich and famous the element of luck still plays a huge part.

Conclusion

Is Nothing Impossible? The answer is “No”. There is a limit on what anyone can achieve and it is mostly determined by luck. However one can improve their luck in life by improving themselves and by taking calculated risks or gamble if you want to call it this way. Many young people are now taking risks as well as people insecure in their financial life and you should too.

The earlier you try and even fail the more are your chances to learn and succeed later.
