Action Short Story: Strength and Speed
Police Officer Armstrong was inside the police car, eating his lunch of fried chicken and fries which was made even more delicious with the refreshing taste of a chocolate sundae and a tall cup of iced coke. As he ate, he noticed the disagreeing frown of his partner, Police Officer Olsen.
Olsen was eating a vegetable salad for lunch and milkshake. The two were a stark contrast to each other. Armstrong was a commanding seven feet tall and bristling with muscles, while Olsen was just a little over five feet tall and was petite.
The department heads think they make a great pair for publicity. Armstrong’s imposing presence was somewhat nullified by his partner who looked very cute because of her short stature and petite built. It was their first day together as partners, patrolling the city.
They were in a classy entertainment and shopping area of the city. This too was planned by the department heads because it was a very visible area as far as the media is concerned. Lots of celebrities and rich people frequented the area, and their hope was that Armstrong and Olsen as a pair would be noticed by the media.
But in truth, the pair hated the idea of being used as public figures by the police department. The two also hated being around each other. Armstrong detested the very polished attitude of Olsen, while she detested the brute like attitude of Armstrong.
They were parked just in front of a row of high end luxury stores when suddenly, they heard the sound of window glass being broken. It was a huge man, much bigger than Armstrong and carrying a baseball bat with him who broke a window glass in one of the high end luxury stores.
Without stopping to think, the pair drew their guns and approached the man. All around them people scurried to avoid the confrontation between the two police officers and the huge man with a baseball bat.
“Drop your baseball bat and surrender,” shouted Olsen, “don’t make any sudden moves. Just drop your baseball bat slowly.”
But the huge man just swung his baseball bat at Olsen, hitting her in the shoulders as she ducked. Armstrong didn’t waste anytime, he shot the huge man. But to his surprise, the huge man seemed undaunted and swung his baseball bat at him, hitting him in the cheeks, knowing him down.
Although both injured, Armstrong and Olsen both fired at the huge man. But the man was again undaunted and this time swung at their hands which were holding their guns. Both police officers cried in pain as their hands were almost crushed by the impact of the baseball bat hitting them.
But Armstrong knew that he had to stop the huge man somehow despite being already groggy and with an almost crushed hand. He quickly stood up and tackled the huge man, causing both of them to fall to the ground.
Olsen also stood up and looked for her gun which she saw laying on the street just a short distance from her. Meanwhile, the huge man has overpowered Armstrong and was laying on top of him while choking his neck. Armstrong was also doing the same, choking his neck.
A shot was fired by Olsen, hitting the huge man in the shoulder, causing him to stop choking Armstrong who then overpowered the huge man. By then, other police officers have arrived on the scene and helped pin down the huge man.
But as if possessing superhuman strength, the huge man was able to break free from the police officers pinning him down. This was when Armstrong started hitting the huge man with the baseball bat on his arms. Olsen likewise started delivering kung fu kicks to the huge man which she learned in advanced karate training.
Onlookers and the other police officer can only look on as the pair slowly brought down the rampaging huge man. When it was over, the two police officers were panting and were now laying on the ground themselves because they were both worn down already.
The two police officers were in the news that night. They became famous for stopping a man who was a test subject before for a new military experiment which involves using strength and endurance enhancing serums. Apparently, the serum also has the side effect of making the test subject crazy.
The two police officers began to appreciate each other as a partner, especially Armstrong who used to think that Olsen shouldn’t have been a police officer. The two continued patrolling the streets of the city, aware that both of them have each other’s back.

Without Hesitation
… Bob and Marta were sleeping in their bedroom when their security alarm flashed red colors.
“Someone’s trespassing!”, quickly said Bob as he reached for his favorite gun and put bullets in it.
“Let’s call the police!” Said Marta in a panicked voice.
Quickly, Bob called the police who promised to be in their house as soon as possible. The couple waited silently inside their bedroom and tried to guess what the intruder was doing at their house.
Then they heard the barking of their puppy. It was clear that the intruder and their puppy were within distance from each other.
Marta panicked, “We can’t let the criminal hurt our puppy, Bob. Do something.”
Without any other options, Bob was forced to open the door of their bedroom to confront the intruder in their house. He and Marta carefully walked towards to where they were hearing the noises in the midst of the darkness in their house.
Suddenly they saw a man hungrily eating at their kitchen table, it was clear to the couple that the intruder was a homeless person based from the ragged clothes he was wearing and his dirty, unshaven face…
